About the role

Open competitive recruitment for Fire Fighter Recruit with the City of Burbank. Applicants who are not on the FCTC SEL must complete an official City of Burbank application by 5:00 PM PST on Friday, July 24, 2026 to move forward. Tentative oral interview: week of 08/17/26 (subject to change).

Under direction, graduates from a City-sponsored Firefighter recruit academy, developing abilities to respond to alarms and protect life and property; participates in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical training; and station, apparatus, and equipment maintenance.

What you'll do

• Respond to alarms and assist in fire suppression, including lifesaving and rescue; perform salvage operations
• Assist in maintenance of fire apparatus, equipment, station, and grounds
• Make required fire prevention inspections; participate in required training programs
• Respond and assist in medical emergencies; drive on City business

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment
• Valid California Class C driver's license and State of California EMT Certificate at time of appointment
• Must pass Background, Polygraph, and Physical/Psychological exams; must not use tobacco on or off duty while employed
• Desirable: valid State of California Paramedic License

Pay & benefits

After successful completion of the Fire Academy, salary increases to $7,410-$9,966/mo.
