Sunland-Tujunga Council Flags Dam Dredging Fire Risk
July 9, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils
The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council raised a concern at its June 10, 2026 board meeting about plans to dredge two dams at the same time.
The concern is that dredging both dams at once could impact the ability to withdraw water for fire suppression in the event of a fire.
Sunland-Tujunga is a high fire zone, the minutes state.
President Lydia Grant said she has now heard that one of the dams was not a dam where water was planned to be taken.
She is talking to Ricardo Flores to confirm this is the case.
Her goal is to find out where the water resource tanks and dams are located.
More information about the mitigation area is available at dpw.lacounty.gov/wrd/Projects/BTWMA.
